It was quite a surprise to hear this neglected Russian gem.
surprisingly, more in the style of middle-Miaskovsky rather than Khachaturian.

Makarova's symphony was a great discovery for me. I was also reminded of Myaskovsky. It's available on this Russian Disc CD, coupled with Zara Levina's rather Shostakovichian PC 2, which is a very good work as well:
