It's something I'd dearly love to hear (even if it was recorded on a cassette player in a woman's handbag in the fifth row).

A Handbag???

Lionel, the Steinberg Elgar 2 was once on a blog that has since disappeared, I'll see if I grabbed it while it was there, I may need some time to explore the hidden depths of my computer

Chris, that's very kind of you, thanks. Please don't waste too much time if you can't immediately find it.

Stanley Bate: Symphony No 4      Royal Scottish National Orchestra / Martin Yates       Dutton

Here's another composer for a Prom season! I listened to his Symphony No 3 late last night and was, mightily, impressed. Not once did I find myself twiddling my thumbs and looking at track timing's. The time seemed to whizz along, without a wasted note. I started  playing No 4 then;but it was about 3 am! I'm glad they're playing Gipp's Symphony No 2. I love it;but I,sort of,wish they'd picked No 4. I think her orchestration had matured,it's more refined & the construction a tad more sophisticated, and I think it would be more likely to impress the critics (Vincent Price got it right in The Abominable Dr Phibes!). I wish Chandos would record  more Gipps,by the way! Haven't they read all the enthusiastic reviews,of their Gipps cd,that I read? I think Chandos went downhill after Brian Couzens departed this world! He even read one of my letters, apparently!! Of course, there was the financial crisis and the loss of Hickox and Handley!

Katie Derham?!! ::) Oh well,it could be worse! Myleene Klass!! Just wait until she takes over Composer of the Week!! (Ghoulish laugh!) :o ;D

The saints preserve us! I haven't listened to Radio 3 in years and the presence of Myleene Klass would hardly be likely to encourage me to do so now!

Richard Arnell: Symphony No 7 'Mandela'     RSNO / Martin Yates    (Realised & completed by Martin Yates)

I quite like the drumming in this one! I find it quite thrilling! Another composer for a,well deserved,Prom. I wouldn't pick this symphony, though!

Nor me! Well, hardly ever! I just don't want it to go downhill any further;as the BBC do have good orchestras and now and again they record,or broadcast, something worth hearing & I get to hear it! Composer of the Week is quite good, too! Not that I listen to it much. Well,it's on around lunchtime!! ::)

If only! Symphonies by Bate, Arnell, Rubbra, Bax, Stanford, Parry, Alwyn, Rawsthorne, Jones, Hoddinott, etc. would go down a storm at the Proms...

...at least Coleridge-Taylor and Arnold get a showing this year.
