There is a real rarity coming up on Radio 3 next Tuesday (18th June) afternoon: the first professional performance (BBC NOW) of the early two-movement symphony by Leopold Stokowski (1882-1977), probably written between 1906 and 1909.

Although the score was stolen from Stokowski's library, the orchestral parts were rediscovered after his death and the world premiere was given at the RCM in May 2009.

Also to be broadcast are Patrick Hadley's Lines from 'The Cenci' (1951) for soprano and orchestra, and Percy Fletcher's Labour and Love (1913) for brass band.

I will make recordings of these broadcasts for the archive.
