Out of sheer idle curiosity rather than any particular need to know, can anybody here, better informed than me, tell me exactly what's on the go with Penderecki's sixth symphony?  I gather that for some reason it lies in a Petterssonian state of incompletion, and that's as much as I know.  Its absence from my recently acquired Naxos box is an offence to my sense of symmetry and wholeness...

Found by random web search, dated Jan 30 (2013?):

"I understand that Penderecki's Sixth Symphony is to be premiered this
weekend in München with James Levine as conductor. Would like to hear
any feedback from anyone who's able to attend."

Can anybody verify or otherwise elaborate on this?

I read that too ;D  I am virtually certain that it was a hoax/misunderstanding/confusion..........

There appears to be no independent verification or any other reference on the entire net ::)

Back in 2006 I recorded a French concert broadcast from the EBU. Penderecki conducted his 2nd and 8th Symphonies. The commentator mentioned that Penderecki would already think about a 9th Symphony and intended to finish his 6th. Now, seven years later, his publisher Schott has no details about either work.

Penderecki is trying to out-Pettersson Pettersson.

Of course it might be that it's a gargantuan or terrifying task?

I would frankly doubt that a giant of contemporary symphonic writing has put off the task for any humdrum reasons.

Looking at his scores and seeing things like this has put me off Penderecki!

I don't believe the news of the premiere of Symphony No. 6 back in January is true.  I checked his official website (http://www.krzysztofpenderecki.eu) and no mention of it despite other recent performances of his works being listed.  I checked the official Munich Philharmonic website (http://www.mphil.de) and no mention of anything this year.  Also, nothing on his publisher's site (schott).

According to the present Schotts journal, it is to be performed in Guangzhou on 24th September.
It consists of 8 songs on Chinese textsseparated by solo intermezzos played on the erhu.
