I am starting this topic out of pure ignorance and curiosity.
For some years my curiosity has been moldly aroused by the entry on Boris Tishchenko on Onno van Rijen's Soviet Composers site (
http://home.wanadoo.nl/ovar/tishchen.htmin) in which several late works by Tishchenko are described as being "reconstructions" of pieces (lost or otherwise) by Irving Schlein, who I was otherwise not familiar with. Earlier today my curiosity progressed to the point of prompting me to locate this site (
http://www.irvingschlein.com/index.htm) devoted to Schlein, who was apparently fairly prolific and has, largely throughthe advocacy of his late son, had some of his music edited, performed and even recorded by a group of more or less prominent St Petersburg area musician (hence, presumably, the Tishchenko connection). As far as a fairly quick web search has revealed, however, said recordings are either not readily or no longer available.
And that's as much as I know. I'm wondering though, if there's anybody out there who has any familiarity with Schlein's life and music and can offer an opinion on it, and/or who can further elucidate the Schlein-Tishchenko connection. Bonus points to anyone who can actually put me on to a source for the aforementioned recordings.
