These aren't "shawms" as labelled, but Martinstrompete (like an oboe reed connected into a single-note brass instrument - but bundled into groups so that you can play different notes at will).  They always look as though they ought to sound much more interesting than they really do :)

We've done ourselves a great disservice to lose the tradition of playing the cornett (cornett).  What a fine and noble sound it makes :)

I am not good at old instruments.  I investigated shawns. I have to say they sound very different than oboe to me .
I was told that clarinet and oboe will still many innovations and improvements in the future.
