Obviously, of chief interest here is a work for the rarely-used basset clarinet and orchestra by Uzbekistani-born Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin (b. 1957) titled Ornamental Air (2007, 22 minutes). One of the most prominent living Australian composers, Kats-Chernin writes in a melodic, highly accessible style. If you haven't already, please check out this highly enjoyable ABC Classics CD of her Ballet Suite Wild Swans, PC 2 and Mythic for orchestra: http://www.amazon.com/Elena-Kats-Chernin-Wild-Swans/dp/B000A2H3EO/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1358129607&sr=1-1&keywords=kats-chernin

Getting back to the Chandos CD, the clarinetist (and basset clarinetist) is Michael Collins, who also directs the Swedish Chamber Orchestra in this recording.
