I was very excited to come across this channel of otherwise unavailable music by the great American composer David Diamond: http://www.youtube.com/user/pokajanen?feature=watch

Works I have longed to hear can be found on this channel, including his early Cello Concerto, his Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra (a substantial piece at 38 minutes' length), his Concerto for Small Orchestra, his Overture Timon of Athens, and a juvenilia Symphony in One Movement which I did not know existed, along with some band, chamber and piano pieces. I know Colin (who shares my great admiration for Diamond) will be especially pleased with my discovery Grin

P.S.: We BADLY need modern recordings of Diamond's Symphonies 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11! It is quite unfortunate that Naxos has abandoned their mini-series of Diamond's orchestral music Sad

Certainly some interesting stuff, some of which is available on CD others not. I know the Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra well, and its among my favourite Diamond scores.

Diamond is certainly badly in need of a full recorded symphonic cycle, its actually a disgrace that not all his symphonies are available on CD. I'm afraid Naxos don't seem to be bothered with completing cycles these days and keep churning out far too much 10th rate music by complete non-entities in their American music series.

I strongly suspect that these are projects that are being financed by the composers or foundations and the like. To some extent, Naxos seems to be turning into a "vanity press" of sorts. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I really can't believe that Klaus Heymann is willing to foot the bill to promote some of these obscurities!
