There will-of course-be many British composers over the age of 65 whose names are unfamiliar to me but may indeed be composers of genuine quality. I do need to emphasise that my initial list was simply of composers with some at least of whose music I am acquainted.

There are surprisingly few, it seems to me, over the age of 80.

And if anyone read his notice as I did, entitled "RIP Stephen Johnson" and had a few missed heartbeats before realising that it was in fact about Dodgson (about whose death I had already read), I hope that they now know who has actually died.

I see Wikipedia has added his date of death, but still calls him Lewis Carroll's "Closest living relative"
