Little information can be found about the Italian (with a German last name!) violinist and composer Alberto Bachmann. He wrote a book titled "An Encyclopedia of the Violin", which is still in print. The only place where I can find reference to compositions of his is violinconcerto.de, which lists:

-Romance for violin and orchestra in E
-Concertino for violin and orchestra (10 minutes)
-Three violin concertos: no. 1 in G minor, op. 42 (1902); no. 2 (1905); and no. 3 "American (before 1924)

Does anyone have any more information about, or better yet, recordings to upload of this elusive composer?

Kyjo,

Alberto Bachmann comes from the NortEastern part of Italy. This used to be tha Austrian province Süd-Tirol (South-Tirol). After the first World War they lost this province to Italy. German names are quite common there. You'll mention also that many names are Italianised. Here is the first name of the composer done so Alberto. The biggest place here is Bolzano, in German it's called Bozen.

Thanks for your reply, Roelof :) That does make sense. I should really brush up on my European history!

The birthplace of Johann Rufinatscha (Mals) is also there.
