Fans of the music of Honegger, Hindemith, Martin, and Martinu will probably take to the music of the short-lived Swiss composer Willy Burkhard. Burkhard composed in a broadly neo-classical style, but not in the dry, brittle, sarcastic sense (a la Stravinsky). His music is powerful and often rather spare, but is greatly rewarding. This upcoming release will feature two of Burkhard's large-scale orchestral oratorios: "Das Gesicht Jesajas", op. 41 and "Das Jahr", op. 62 (one on each CD). See here:
