Recent Cameo Classics Releases

Could I ask if anyone has purchased the two most recent Cameo Classics British Music releases-

the Dorothy Howell Piano Concerto/Cyril Scott Harpsichord Concerto

or the Ruth Gipps Piano Concerto/Kenneth Leighton Piano Concerto No.1 ???

And-if so-what did you make of the performances/recordings ???

I am planning to buy both....but not until after the end of the month ;D

I think both discs are quite fine.  Sound is good, production not so much.  The pianist needs no accolades from me. She knew Ruth Gipps and really admired her. The performances show it in the dedication and spirit.   The Malta orchestra is much better than one might expect.

The Leighton is quite delightful and neo-classical. Scott's Harpsichord Concerto is strange and very individual, one of his deepest works.  All and all two fascinating discs!

I've bought the Scott/Howell/Elkington/Jadasohn disc and I second the enthusiasm. THe Howell is beautifully played and a lovely piece; the Scott a lovely, interesting work, and the Jadassohn, which I had no expectations of, is a beautiful piece too. The Elkington has also been released on Dutton, and on balance I think I prefer the Dutton version, but there's not really anything wrong with the Cameo. I fully recommend the disc and am intending to get the other shortly.

Given my recent purchase of 4 Dutton discs my finances dictate that the two Cameos together with 2 recent cpo discs(Panufnik and Georg Schumann) are postponded until after I receive my monthly pension ::)
