One of best pianists in our time is Marc-Andre Hamelin.
There is an interview with him in International PIano magazine (No. 16 Nov/Dec 2012)

He discusses the recordings that influenced him most.

But his first choice  goes to John Kirkpatrick playing Ives' Concord Sonata, recorded in 1968.   He bought it in local shop when he was 13.

He likes Nancarrow and Zappa among others.

Interview is done by Jeremy Nicholas and is very interesting.
