A new EMI double CD disc of viola and violin works recorded by Louise Williams (viola & violin) and David Owen Norris (piano) is due for release this month.

It includes CD1:

McEwen: Sonata in A minor for Viola and Piano (1941)

Bax: Sonata for Viola and Piano (first performed 1922)

McEwen: Improvisations Provençales for Violin and Piano (1937) [The Heavy Heart (Lou Couar Gros)/Au Petit Saint Jean/The Old Trees Remember (Les Vieux Platanes)/A Little Rhapsody (Rapsodie du Felibre)/Oouliveio (Song of one who gathers olives fallen from the trees)/The Piper (Lou Galoubet)]

McEwen: Breath O’ June for Viola and Piano

CD2

Norris: Sonata for Viola and Piano (1938)

Maconchy: Sonatina for Viola and Piano (1949)

Jacob: Sonata for Viola and Piano (first performed 1937)

Rawsthorne: Sonata for Viola and Piano (first performed 1937)

Milford: Four Pieces for Viola and Piano, Op.4 2 (1935) [Air/Musette/Serenade/Gavot]

Leighton: Fantasia on the name BACH (first performed 1956) /

I will be buying it, principally, for the McEwen pieces, especially the Viola Sonata which, together with 'Breath of June', in its violin version, are available in the British Music download section.

Fantastic news! Thanks, patmos.beje :). By the way, the label is EM, not EMI ;D. EMI would never release such obscure repertoire!

Thanks for the correction.  I thought it looked far too enterprising for EMI.
