I read in the International Record Review that Marco Polo is to resume its long-suspended Brian cycle. Does anyone know if this is true, and any more information? It would be extremely welcome news to me!

Success ;D

The Russian State Symphony Orchestra under Alexander Walker recorded Symphonies Nos. 22, 23 and 24 plus the English Suite No.1 on 31st August in Moscow :) :)

Now, of course, No.22 is already available on cd in the famous Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra performance, but Nos. 23 and 24 will be getting their first cd outing and this will be the first professional recording of the First English Suite.

Nos. 22-24 make up a trilogy so the coupling is eminently sensible :)

That will only leave Symphonies Nos. 5, 14, 19, 26, 27, 28 and 29 to get onto cd. Seven symphonies out of the 32. Whoever would have thought it a few years back ;D ;D

Thanks, Colin - good news indeed! Besides being a sensible symphony programme, this also means that we will have professional recordings of all the extant English Suites -

No.1 - Naxos (forthcoming)
No.3 - Dutton CDLX 7267
No.4 - Dutton (forthcoming)
No.5 - Toccata TOCC0110

- Brian at his most approachable.

 ;D

I wonder what the Russians made of his idiosyncratic style ...

Symphonies Nos. 26, 27, 28 and 29 would fit nicely onto one disc of about 70 minutes in duration ;D

....or Nos. 14, 19 and 27 on one of around 65 minutes ;D ;D

Thank you so much for finding that out, Colin! That is among the best news I have had all year! And very sensible to put 22-24 together, as they are considered to be a kind of trilogy. Yes, I have been praying for a professional recording of ES no. 1: it is one of the few works I still have to listen to on that Heald-Smith CD. Now only the Herrick songs remain from there!
