Many thanks, Dundonnell, for flagging this up.
2  Assorted items / Coming broadcasts and listen-later links / Gordon Crosse: Symphony No. 3 "Between Despair and Dawn" (world premiere) on: October 26, 2017, 05:58:00 pm
It seems that the world premiere performance of Gordon Crosse's Symphony No. 3 is to be broadcast tomorrow (27th October), tucked away in Radio 3's 'Afternoon Concert', some time before 5pm.

Also included are works by Rachel Portman, Edwin Roxburgh and Sally Beamish (Diodati - UK premiere).

The section of the programme containing all of these works begins at about 3.25pm UK time.

Link to BBC programme page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09b0yd7.

It seems to have been recorded at a concert in Maida Vale on 6th October: https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/emncd4

And interesting releases of British chamber music. Their new and upcoming releases are certainly worth a look! :) Yes,well done Naxos! :)

I think we should put in a word for the British Music Society, which I think has probably funded the recording of the Fricker String Quartets (and several others - see their 'recordings' page: http://www.britishmusicsociety.com/recordings/; the Fricker doesn't seem to have appeared there yet, but reading the rear label on the Amazon site reveals the involvement of the BMS.)  I once spoke to one of the committee members, who implied that Naxos is prepared to issue recordings on the basis that the material is supplied to them.

The performance of the Daniel Jones Symphony and Violin Concerto gives Lyrita another opportunity to add these works to their collection.

We can only hope :-\

Just wondering, - are Edmund Rubbra's Symphonies regularly (or ever) programmed in the UK?

It's a very rare occurrence - unfortunately you've just missed Rubbra 4 played by the Worthing Symphony Orchestra:

Wonderful news :)

Now just to find a good, clean and-above all-SAFE way of downloading the symphony (and the Casella Missa Solemnis and the recent Maxwell Davies uploads).

Have you tried VLC media player?  It seems to work OK as a download method.

Thank you for posting the symphony on youtube - I've been hoping to hear it for a long time.

Now just to be greedy, I wonder if anyone will put Symphony No. 7 on youtube - there will be recordings, as there were at least three cameras strapped to the balcony rail in Huddersfield during its first performance.

It appears to be a repackaging of the BMS disc:http://www.britishmusicsociety.com/recordings/arnold-cooke-three-string-sonatas/

The BMS is gradually re-issuing its recordings under the Naxos label.

The whole set seems to be available on https://play.spotify.com/search/vaughan%20williams%20rozhdestvensky - so I'm trying before committing.

If anyone wants a single-page weekly Radio 3 listing to avoid multiple mouse-clicking, there's one at http://radiolists.blogspot.co.uk/.  There's also a link on that page (on the right, under 'More Listings') to a mediafire location containing printable PDF versions.  The lists are usually uploaded on Friday evenings.

The first time I heard the fifth symphony was a BBC broadcast in 1980 with Rozhdestvensky conducting the BBCSO, and I was captivated.  That performance was later issued on a BBC Radio Classics CD, coupled with Sancta Civitas, again conducted by Rozhdestvensky.  If the performances on the set match those two, then they will be very good.  I will certainly be investigating.

Rozhdestvensky is no stranger to British music: I remember him conducting a large amount when he was with the BBCSO, and I think he conducted some Elgar at the Proms a few years ago.

He's not alone: another Russian, Vassily Sinaisky seems to have taken to British music - he did Moeran's G minor Symphony and Elgar 2 in Manchester and at the Proms with the BBCPO a few years ago, and he's done Walton 1 in Manchester.  All performances were good.  He's doing Job next season in Manchester.

I am intrigued. I have spent a lot of time on railway station platforms and never yet heard any obscure violin concertos. Details, please!

Nothing particularly extraordinary, but I must admit it's unusual.  I was waiting for a train to Ipswich at Witham station in Essex one Sunday afternoon.  Somebody was playing a radio in one of the offices on another platform, and I deduced that it must be Radio 3.  (It was before the days of CFM.)  Several staff were amused, commenting something like "he's at it again!".  On return home I consulted the Radio Times and made the connection.
