Thanks for Haug 4, a wonderful piece. Do I understand you to say there is a recording of No.1 available somewhere?

On the theme of music left unfinished by the composer (or in this case suppressed)... I really wish someone would record Tippett's early symphony in Bflat. It was suppressed by the composer and a biographer concurs with this saying the music is too indebted to Sibelius (as though that's a bad thing).

However with the movement to record every last scrap of juvenilia by Mozart, Beethoven &c I'm sure we could give the Tippett No.0 a try.

Thanks for the Symphony No.7 by Salgado. I enjoyed it a lot, it reminded me of later Havergal Brian, though a little more conventional (and longer).

Pity his other works aren't available.

I've never thought much of her music, too stiff and not inventive enough.

Miriam Hyde is very much better, the two piano concertos disc is one to treasure.

I wouldn't describe the other Robert Hughes as a "a very quirky Aussie political hack". He was an art critic and a historian... and had pronounced political views.

Just uploading my version of the Peteris Vasks String Quartet No.5 in case it is of better quality.

Wonderful music.

Hasn't that been going on for years?

A puff here for www.klassichaus.us

Proprietor Curt Timmons makes refurbished versions of old LPs and sells them as MP3 or flac downloads.

His catalogue has some interesting items in its and his site is well worth browsing.

I've just bought one of his latest offerings: symphonies by Schuman and Perscetti

😃

Thanks for the tip, I'll certainly pick them up. Sulek is a composer whose works need the best recordings because of the size and energy of his orchestra.

Actually I had no problem with the Naxos catalogue of 20 years ago. I have a problem with the Naxos catalogue of the last 2-3 years, however, where they seem to be publishing vast acerages of very unimportant music when (as we know) there are plenty of really good compositions awaiting recording.
