Not to get too far off-topic, but while we're on the subject of newly found withdrawn early concertos, are there any plans for the recently rediscovered d'Albert A minor concerto?

I have kept my ear to the ground on this one and I am pretty sure there were some plans afoot to record it, but with whom and precisely how far down the road such plans had got, I really don't know. We can safely (and sadly) say that they will have been put on hold as a result of COVID-19. But I think the d'Albert A minor is bound to be recorded before long.

The ms of the A minor concerto is, apparently, in a poor state and it is only due to Simon Callaghan's work on it and his producing a set of parts from the cleaned up score that we will be able to hear this work.

To say nothing of the completed parts of Christus.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a complete recording of The Song of Songs in my lifetime.

Me too. It's a wonderful score. One can live in hope!

Thanks very much, John. I hope you get a positive response from Maestro Bostock. I was thinking of writing to CPO, but an approach directly to the conductor will likely be more productive.

If this splendid series is to continue, perhaps Bostock could be persuaded to record the first version (which was scored for strings alone) of Joseph Holbrooke's suite "Les Hommages" - score and parts in Fleisher.

I presume this thread is about the composer Emile-Robert BLANCHET (not Blanchard). Folk may experience difficulty in finding some of his music on YouTube if they search under BLANCHARD.

So was I. It was glorious - a truly memorable evening.

Thanks, John. Somehow this recording passed me by completely. Hope it is still available.

I rate German very highly and, incidentally, would pay good money to his suite The Seasons. We need a recording. Score and parts are readily available.

The first movement is now on YouTube and one can definitely hear the wind instruments in the opening tutti. I will listen to the whole movement later, but thought I should post now to set Jim's mind at rest.

Fleisher has score and parts which are given as: solo violin, flute, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 horns and strings.
The Kalmus edition of the concerto (c. 1940) is held by a number of libraries, including NYPL. The score can also be downloaded from IMSLP.

It is really marvellous news. I can hardly wait. Thank you so much for bringing these exciting news to our attention.

Very useful, John. Many thanks. There is some lovely music here.

Ruth Gipps' piano concerto is a first rate piece. On my suggestion Angela Brownridge recorded it for Cameo Classics with the Malta Philharmonic under Michael Laus. It was coupled with the 1st piano concerto by Kenneth Leighton. That disk is now difficult to obtain, I believe.  But Nimbus took over the Cameo catalogue and may well reissue the recording. I hope so. The Somm disk, of course, has another and very welcome rarity - well, two in fact: the only extant piano concerto by Dora Bright and her Variations on an Original Theme for piano and orchestra. I can recommend both CDs.
