This recording is indeed to be applauded. BUT it is IMHO a pity they chose to record a number of small, relatively trifling (though certainly attractive) pieces (some orchestrated by other hands) and the suite "From Foreign Lands" which has been recorded before, rather than some more substantial works - e.g. the 3 orchestral suites without titles or the 4 movement tone poem "Joan of Arc", scores and parts for which are all in the Fleisher Collection. Still, as I say, the CD is to be welcomed, and perhaps it will lead to further recordings of Moszkowski''s orchestral works.

A nice list, Balapoel. Unfortunately, however, some of these works are well and truly lost; and some are worthless (I'm thinking here of the Joseph Street concerti, which are woefully amateurish and uninspired). I will go through the list and identify those which, so far, a number of researchers have failed to find. Of course, I would be very happy if some of those subsequently turned up - but I'm not holding my breath.

It is quite extraordinary that we do not have recordings of his two major late symphonies-the Autumn Symphony for chorus and orchestra of 1934 and the May Symphony for soloists, chorus and orchestra of 1943. I agree it's a great shame we lack recordings of these two important major works by Novak. But it may be that Supraphon are reluctant to undertake what would be two expensive recording projects - chorus, soloists (in the case of the "May" symphony) and large orchestras for both.
