91  Assorted items / Commercial recordings (vintage, new and forthcoming) / Re: New CPO releases!!! on: October 06, 2012, 09:10:51 am
I have the new Panufnik release. Haven't been this giddy over a new release in a while. Two supreme readings of the Sinfonia Votiva and the Metasinfonia that outdo both of their predecessors (though the old ones are still worth listening to!). The Concerto Festivo seems a bit lacking, though, compared to the old recording. I already want to hear Volume 6. Anyone know what's going to be on that one?

Any word if Naxos is just reissuing these Collins Classics CDs, or if they actually have plans to do the other three symphonies (in new recordings, of course)? I remember liking the Antarctic Symphony quite a bit. Also, I've heard reports that there is a tenth symphony in the works, even.

I should say that I ended up not using my rip, but someone else's, since mine had a few clicks and pops for unknown reasons. For all I know, the version I posted also has those clicks and pops, which might have been in the actual broadcast feed. In any case, you can hear the work.

By the way, it's quite a shame that this thread has been hijacked by Steven Stucky. I am still hoping that Zwilich's piece surfaces!

Stucky's symphony has been recorded. I will post it as soon as I have time to convert and split the file.

I checked Hindson's website recently and he indeed has clips for most of his pieces. Nothing complete, though, except for Plastic Jubilation (but in synth form), as far as I have seen. There are some CDs available for loan through the Australian Music Centre that have some live recordings of his works, but they are only available to people in Australia. I have considered emailing Hindson to see if he can point the way to any other recordings of his music. It is a real shame that so much of his music is not readily available in any form.

Another tip on how to download from ConcertZender is to use Download Helper: http://www.downloadhelper.net/

All you do is just right click on the icon in Firefox, select the file from the Media dropdown box, and you're done! That's if you don't want to go through all the steps of using VLC. I have been downloading concerts from ConcertZender (and elsewhere) for a long time with no problems with this handy little tool. Firefox only, though, as far a I know.

I *think* Steven Stucky's new Symphony will be broadcasted on my local radio station this coming Sunday (since it is being premiered here). I will try to record that performance if it is broadcasted.

On topic with the Zwilich, here is a perusal score for all to look at while we await a recording:

I'd like to extend the Hindson request to just about anything. Hindson's music is incredibly hard to find, on record or broadcast or otherwise.

I have the MacMillan and can post it very soon.

Maybe a commercial recording is in the works, since the other 4 have been recorded. Maybe you can try messaging Presser and/or Naxos to see if they know anything about a forthcoming recording.

Come to think of it, for Zwilich's music being performed so often (relative to others), I can't think of one time I have seen a broadcast of her music being announced, or maybe I am not looking in the right places (and I often do).
101  MEMBERS' CORNER / Members' wish lists & requests / Humphrey Searle Piano Sonata on: August 25, 2012, 06:59:21 pm
Reposting this from UC:

Does anyone have any information regarding an old Argo LP (ATC1002, according to the score) of Humphrey Searle's Piano Sonata, played by Gordon Watson? I've been going crazy trying to find anything on it, but it seems to have been promptly deleted after its release. It looks like a very interesting work from the score and I'd love to hear it. At this point, I'd be happy for just any information, but a recording would be nice!
