Berg: Chamber Concerto for Piano Violin and 13 instruments Reiko Watanabe (violin) Andrea Luchesini (piano) Staatskapelle Dresden/ Guiseppe Sinopoli Elatus
Nearly got to the end of my pile of cds of the Second Viennese School. I don't think any of this stuff would feature on 'Name that Tune'! ;D But I'm still alive! Although,I'm beginning to look a bit like the chap in the photo in the previous post, after all this!! Interesting & strangely absorbing, though!

I'm wondering what clenched ears look like,though?!! :-\ :o ;D
Wow, Lidl are doin' a real good deal of Chandos' abandoned Rufinatscha CD series - hurry while stocks last (and last, and last)... Meanwhile, smoked bacon's on special offer (as long as you don't mind it a bit green and furry round the edges, probably a bit like Rufinatscha by now). Lovely stuff! His teeth aren't in bad nick though, considering... He's lucky! He managed to find a dentist who takes NHS patients! :)

Sibelius: Violin Concerto Hilary Hahn (Vln) Swedish Radio SO Dg
Wearing cordless headphones can create confusion. This follows the Schoenberg Violin Concerto on the same cd. I got engrossed in something else for a while. I suddenly though,"This is tuneful for Schoenberg?!! :o :o :o Then,I realised that Hilary Hahn was playing the Sibelius,of course! ::) ;D This is a great performance,by the way! :)
I have that recording in the form of a download. I probably listened to the Schoenberg through clenched ears when I first got it but I agree that Hilary Hahn's performance of the Sibelius is great. My favourite of all time is by Camilla Wicks with the Stockholm Radio Symphony Orchestra under Sixten Ehrling which I first had in the form of a Capitol LP (CTL 7026) and which was first issued in 1952; I later bought it remastered on CD (Biddulph 80218-2). Apparently, Sibelius himself greatly admired her interpretation. It was a shame that Camilla Wicks felt the need to give up performing and recording to raise her family although she was a much sought-after teacher. She died only last November, at the age of 92. RIP. Interesting! I'm wondering what clenched ears look like, though?!! :-\ :o ;D

Schoenberg: Piano Concerto op.42 Mitsuko Uchida (Pno) The Cleveland Orchestra/ Pierre Boulez Philips
I won't have to worry about getting a tune going round in my head with this one! ;D I find this strangely absorbing. Like a stream of consciousness. The cd is filled up with solo piano pieces by Schoenberg,Berg and Webern.

Speaking of Holbrooke......I mean Tommy Cooper! :o ;D What is,generally regarded as his best tv series, has recently been released on Dvd,by Network (Tommy Cooper the complete LWT Series).
I must look out for that... A man went to the doctor. He said, "Doctor, I've broken my arm in three places." And the doctor said, "Don't go there, then!" JOSEPH HOLBROOKETOMMY COOPERVery funny! ;D I laughed out loud when I read it! Seeing his face helped (though it is a funny joke!). Holbrooke looks like the kind of audience every comedian dread's in that photo! He liked the music hall, though! The LWT series I refer to is the one that ITV 4 have been repeating (Tommy Cooper - The Complete LWT Series). I got this from The British Comedy Guide: "This classic sketch series features a veritable galaxy of guest stars: Ted Ray, Stubby Kaye, Richard Briers, Arthur Lowe, Joan Greenwood, Bernard Cribbins, Patrick Cargill, Tricia Noble, Vincent Price, Michael Bentine, Ronnie Barker, Thora Hird, Diana Dors, Ronnie Corbett, Liz Fraser and Eric Sykes. This release contains all thirteen episodes, complete and uncut". I'm sure if Joseph Holbrooke had been around to watch the show,he'd have been, literally, crying with laughter! (Well I'm just trying not to derail the thread,Albion! ::) ;D) I think the series shows Tommy Cooper at his best. The guests are great! I remember watching the tapes (I made) with my father!
