16  Assorted items / Coming broadcasts and listen-later links / Re: Ina Boyle "Glencree" Symphony (1927) on: February 07, 2017, 01:43:54 pm
I've got this, but I can tell from the description I didn't do the original upload. I'm pretty sure it comes from this forum, yet I couldn't find it on my initial trawl of its archives, although I didn't try that hard!!

RTE  Concert Orchestra, Kenneth Montgomery - so it says!

Any problems let me know.

What about that well known tonal romanticist Denis ApIvor (1916-2004) and his five unrecorded symphonies.

Anyway commiserations to Cilgwyn - Daniel Jones' Symphony No. 1 is not No.2, is it ;D? Maybe that'll be next, or maybe not!!
18  Assorted items / YouTube performances / Re: Fridrich Bruk - Symphony Nº 9 on: October 28, 2016, 09:33:00 am
All his symphonies (1-16), all written within the last 20 years are now on youtube. Some works have now been uploaded by the composer, and he's even replied to a post on his Symphony No.2! From the several I've heard, the recordings are excellent, orchestration good, but I'm finding them difficult to follow on first (and in some cases second)hearing, especially as the music is very episodic and over long spans, but some members may have no such problems. If you like a challenge, this may be for you! His two earlier (1983,87) string quartets are very good and to me, again at first hearing, better suited to his style.
19  MEMBERS' CORNER / Members' wish lists & requests / Re: Colin Matthews 'Berceuse for Dresden' for cello and orchestra(2005)-Proms on: August 30, 2016, 05:19:48 pm
No. Its only available as a programme to listen to from the BBC website for 30 days after broadcast. If you download the programme within that period and record it, you can just turn it into a sound file and upload to the forum. I have recorded the work anyway, and will upload it with Huw Watkins' Cello Concerto when I get access to my computer in a week or so, if nobody beats me to it.I'm a bit surprised neither work is on youtube yet!
20  Assorted items / General musical discussion / Re: British Concertos: Availability for Download (Part 1) on: July 30, 2016, 08:02:26 pm
The Robert Still Violin Concerto is on youtube, but what appears to be a 15 minute final movement is only around 10 minutes, with an unexplained gap at the end.
21  Assorted items / YouTube performances / Re: The James Stuart Channel on: July 29, 2016, 11:01:35 am
The John McCabe Piano Concerto No.3 has been uploaded on TheMudfinger channel, and James Stuart has provided the performance details in the comments box, so presumably he either hasn't got it to post, or sees no point in uploading it again.

This can now be purchased on the Musicweb site. Like Colin, I used them for the Wordsworth and Hamilton and the discs arrived a few days after ordering from Wyastone (the producers), so this is a good way (I hope!) of getting your payment as close to the source as you can.
I ordered this before Musicweb added the bit 'available June' otherwise I wouldn't have ordered it. I got a reply saying hopefully within the week, or the distributor will contact me. I'm not desperate for this anyway, as the archive and cd recordings are fine. It was mainly to flag up the fact that in the past, Musicweb has been weeks ahead of the 'official' release date.

They seem to be growing in confidence with this four disc set.

Found on Amazon UK, by searching Lyrita, then narrowing choice by release date. As I say, I can't provide a link
as I can't cut and paste it from my mobile and I have no computer access currently! Strangely, if I type the word that normally comes after the word mobile ,the text alters when posted to 'can't tell you'-anyone know why??
27  Assorted items / Commercial recordings (vintage, new and forthcoming) / Arthur Butterworth on Lyrita on: March 27, 2016, 04:18:33 pm
Symphonies 1, 2 & 4 BBCSSO.
sorry, can't do a link from my mobile to Amazon. This 2 disc set is a bit of a strange choice, but it may have something to do with the artists or how they plan to release the other symphonies   ;D

Massive thanks to British composer for the large scale orchestral works. Like Alex, I lost my familiarity with PMD's work in the late 90s when the Collins cds ended. These latest uploads, together with the youtube rareclassix channel uploads have helped fill in the gap.

Thanks for the posting of the work.  I have one too as a backup, and guess I had 28 days of iplayer had it gone wrong.

Well, what I first understood to be a 25 minute mass grew into a work with sections of the mass interspersed with narration and poetry, but I wasn’t sure if the poetry was sung or narrated. What we heard was quite different, substantially longer,  very powerful, and successful I think in moving away from the mass to the interlude and narration over orchestra, which must take a lot of practice.

I only read about the Vernon Watkins connection (my post above) in relation to this broadcast but despite searching joint names, nothing now comes up, although what does come up, as one would expect, is that they, and Daniel Jones, were friends, and she had earlier set a Watkins’ poem. It seems that the Watkins link to the mass was wrong. Apologies (yet again!).
