A new channel with old recordings of rare American orchestral works and two (so far) Rivier symphonies!
5  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Re: Sally Beamish Piano Concerto No. 2 on: March 19, 2017, 01:11:44 pm
Thanks to britishcomposer for uploading No.1, which I hadn't heard. I was just about to ask you if you could upload it, and there it was!
6  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Re: Sally Beamish Piano Concerto No. 2 on: March 12, 2017, 01:43:48 pm
Strangely enough (very, very strangely, if you ask me), the Piano Concerto No. 2 'Cauldron of the Speckled Seas' is second up in a programme on BBC Radio 3 on Saturday 18th March at 22.00. That's the second time a member's request has almost immediately been granted by an outside force!

I completely missed that programme, I'm afraid. i see that her 3rd Piano Concerto gets its first performance in Dundee in April, so look out to see if that gets broadcast!
8  Little-known music of all eras / Coming broadcasts and listen-later links / Re: Ina Boyle "Glencree" Symphony (1927) on: February 07, 2017, 06:50:50 pm
Now I have looked more carefully, I think it was contained in the file uploaded by Shamus on 8 September last year, 'Irish Music', so you won't find the composer's name in the message itself in the way we normally present the uploads. Shamus should therefore really be taking the thanks for this!

I've got this, but I can tell from the description I didn't do the original upload. I'm pretty sure it comes from this forum, yet I couldn't find it on my initial trawl of its archives, although I didn't try that hard!!

RTE  Concert Orchestra, Kenneth Montgomery - so it says!

Any problems let me know.
10  Little-known music of all eras / New recordings / Re: Daniel Jones Symphonies forthcoming on Lyrita on: November 10, 2016, 09:52:36 pm
What about that well known tonal romanticist Denis ApIvor (1916-2004) and his five unrecorded symphonies.

Anyway commiserations to Cilgwyn - Daniel Jones' Symphony No. 1 is not No.2, is it Grin? Maybe that'll be next, or maybe not!!
11  Little-known music of all eras / Downloads discussion / Re: British and Irish Music on: November 02, 2016, 11:24:50 am
Yes, this work is a bit of a tough one - I was expecting something lighter in mood and orchestration, but as a prologue to an earlier conceived opera which never materialised, I suppose we knew what to expect!  'Ebb of Winter' and 'Last Door of Light' have been released on a cd with the previously-recorded Hill Runes and Orkney Wedding with Sunrise, so the gaps are being filled ..... very slowly!
12  Little-known music of all eras / Youtube performances / Re: Fridrich Bruk - Symphony Nš 9 on: October 28, 2016, 09:33:00 am
All his symphonies (1-16), all written within the last 20 years are now on youtube. Some works have now been uploaded by the composer, and he's even replied to a post on his Symphony No.2! From the several I've heard, the recordings are excellent, orchestration good, but I'm finding them difficult to follow on first (and in some cases second)hearing, especially as the music is very episodic and over long spans, but some members may have no such problems. If you like a challenge, this may be for you! His two earlier (1983,87) string quartets are very good and to me, again at first hearing, better suited to his style.
13  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Re: Colin Matthews 'Berceuse for Dresden' for cello and orchestra(2005)-Proms on: August 30, 2016, 05:19:48 pm
No. Its only available as a programme to listen to from the BBC website for 30 days after broadcast. If you download the programme within that period and record it, you can just turn it into a sound file and upload to the forum. I have recorded the work anyway, and will upload it with Huw Watkins' Cello Concerto when I get access to my computer in a week or so, if nobody beats me to it.I'm a bit surprised neither work is on youtube yet!
14  Little-known music of all eras / Discussion of obscure composers / Re: British Concertos: Availability for Download (Part 1) on: July 30, 2016, 08:02:26 pm
The Robert Still Violin Concerto is on youtube, but what appears to be a 15 minute final movement is only around 10 minutes, with an unexplained gap at the end.
15  Little-known music of all eras / Youtube performances / Re: The James Stuart Channel on: July 29, 2016, 11:01:35 am
The John McCabe Piano Concerto No.3 has been uploaded on TheMudfinger channel, and James Stuart has provided the performance details in the comments box, so presumably he either hasn't got it to post, or sees no point in uploading it again.
