5  Various / Miscellany / Re: Composers and "Morality" on: November 20, 2017, 01:32:30 pm
Isn't that a little simple?
Morality is a part of being civilized. Aren't composers a part of this civilization?
6  Little-known music of all eras / New recordings / Re: Enescu Festival cd set on: November 19, 2017, 10:52:46 pm
Thank you Toby,

The Tooduta 2nd is reason enough for me to try to get a cd
7  About music in general / The listener / Re: What are you listening to today? on: November 05, 2017, 02:44:37 pm
Strange new stuff on SoundCloud, composers Henry Ajax, Chris Hung, Voro García, Fabio Cachao---How's that for an unapologetic obsessive compulsive new music seeker?

Well, I have a look now. All names you show are new to me.
 Thanks
8  Little-known music of all eras / Youtube performances / Iulia Narcisa Cibisescu Duran on: November 01, 2017, 04:07:26 pm
Here is the premiere of the 2nd symphony by the romanian composer Iulia Narcisa Cibisescu-Duran.
She posted it herself on her channel.
It's a little noisy recording and the music is quite loud.

https://youtu.be/ba-jLjUhxlM

Her 1st symphony is here: https://youtu.be/4SP4eF4iBRU
A Suite for violin & orch: https://youtu.be/R5gVZYl8rjg

She was in 1966.
Next to her composing work she's a conductor as well. On Wikipedia you can learn more from this 1966 born composer

Today I found the composer Jorge E. López.
There quite a few of works on YT.

His symphonies 3 & 4 are very listenable. I'll let me surprise by his other works
10  Little-known music of all eras / Coming broadcasts and listen-later links / Re: Gordon Crosse: Symphony No. 3 "Between Despair and Dawn" (world premiere) on: October 27, 2017, 12:44:44 am
Thank you Kinder for this message. I will try to downliad them, if I can.
The subtitle of the symphony sounds intriguing.
11  Little-known music of all eras / Discussion of obscure composers / Re: "Tunes for Tyrants" (BBC 4) and "Carmina Burana" on: October 16, 2017, 12:17:33 am
Orff is also known for his Schulwerk. He created hundreds of pieces, some together with his wife, for school education. She also wrote pieces for this project on her own.
His opera 'Der Mond' has some funny moments. Here as in most of his works simplicity reigns.

He never reached the level of Çarmina Burana with his other works. The cantatas that were meant to create a triple together with the Carmina, were of another (IMHO, lower) level. History will prove if he is to be one of the composers remembered by one composition only.

I certainly will continue to love the Carmina Burana. Better even, later this year it wil be performed in a few places here in my country, and I have a ticket for one of the perofrmances.

Whatever Orff did, this is one of the great vocal-orchestral works of the last century in my view.
13  Little-known music of all eras / New recordings / Re: Fricker Symphonies Nos.1-4 on Lyrita on: October 07, 2017, 11:08:25 pm
Well, space is of course a reason for me, buying only a little number of cd's. I also don't write cd's from downloaded works. I simply save them on external hard drives. I can attach them on  my home audio-set if I like. But mostly I play them from one of my computers in my "man cave"
14  Little-known music of all eras / New recordings / Re: Karl Höller symphonic music on: October 07, 2017, 08:41:17 pm
From all the afore mentioned germans, Erwin Dressel is maybe the least known.
The UE (Universal Edition have scores of a few of his works.
https://www.universaledition.com/

Der Rosenbusch der Maria  -a legend for chorus and orch (1929) (90 min)
Der Kuchentanz (1928)
Armer Columbus (Poor Columbus (1927) for chorus and large ensemble  (120 min)

It is hardly possible that we'll ever hear one of these I'm afraid.
15  Little-known music of all eras / New recordings / Re: Fricker Symphonies Nos.1-4 on Lyrita on: October 07, 2017, 04:26:59 pm
Happily the four symphonies are now also available at Spotify; joining in at the moment.  Smiley

Good thinking. At least it is cheaper than the cd release. But I don't regret I ordered the cd's. I prefer the cd's with booklet and so. Space is beginning to be a problem here, but a few cd's can still be added.
