1  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Re: Looking for Firuz Bakhor - Chamber Works and other Tajik works on Melodiya on: October 04, 2018, 04:17:42 am
Thanks for the head's up on this! :-) I'll see if I can find it.

Another LP I'm interested in is this one, which includes Bakhor's 2nd Symphony and a set of Variations by fellow Tajik composer K. Khikmatov.

2  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Looking for Firuz Bakhor - Chamber Works and other Tajik works on Melodiya on: October 03, 2018, 11:43:18 pm
Hello,

Does anybody have a rip of this rare record of works by Tajik composer Firuz Bakhor?

https://www.discogs.com/%D0%A4%D0%B8%D1%80%D1%83%D0%B7-%D0%91%D0%B0%D1%85%D0%BE%D1%80-%D0%9A%D0%B0%D0%BC%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%BD%D1%8B%D0%B5-%D0%9F%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%B8%D0%B7%D0%B2%D0%B5%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F/release/10060043

As well, I'm still curious about this record with works by Tajik composers Z. Mirshakar and Sh. Pulodi:

Thanks!

4  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Giselher Klebe on: August 17, 2016, 12:48:13 am
I'm wondering if anybody has any recordings of this modern German composer's sizable body of work, which included over a dozen operas and a variety of other pieces. Thanks to anybody who can help.
5  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Max Reger's Gesang der Verklärten, Op. 71 on: January 26, 2016, 10:07:13 pm
I wanted to see if anyone here could share the following hard-to-find LP, which features his Gesang der Verklärten, Op. 71.

6  Little-known music of all eras / Discussion of obscure composers / Re: Vadim Salmanov (1912-1978) on: September 04, 2015, 04:31:47 pm
Salmanov's string quartet cycle is wonderful, and easily-available on CD/MP3:

http://www.musicweb-international.com/classrev/2012/July12/Salmanov_Quartets_NFPMA99102.htm

http://www.amazon.com/Salmanov-Complete-String-Quartets-Vol/dp/B00BXBB5DQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1441380799&sr=1-2&keywords=salmanov+quartets

These quartets and a handful of other chamber works were, for a time, re-typeset and republished in post-1991 Russia and saw a smidgen of distribution elsewhere (e.g. a handful of college libraries in the States have copies of these volumes, but even Ruslania hasn't been able to restock them in a while).
7  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Re: Milhaud - Barba Garibo on: August 14, 2015, 07:22:56 am
Hello again,

I wanted to bump this thread in the hopes that anybody's got information about whether or not there are any recordings available for this obscure Milhaud vocal piece. A person I know on Facebook has searching for it for years and, for some reason, is running into difficulty registering to this forum. I've had the score for this work for quite some time, but haven't even managed to find info on a performance or recording.

Thanks,
Caos
8  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Heinrich Litinsky on: July 31, 2015, 03:18:44 pm
I was wondering if anybody had (or knows of) any recordings by the Soviet-era composer Henrikh Ilich Litinsky, who I've seen referred to mostly as a famous teacher of Soviet composers from outside of Russia (i.e. he taught A. Harutyunyan, K. Khachaturyan, F. Yarullin, Ch. Nurymov, E. Mirzoyan, etc...). A basic bio and works list can be found at:

http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&prev=search&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=ru&u=http://dic.academic.ru/dic.nsf/enc_biography/72368/%25D0%259B%25D0%25B8%25D1%2582%25D0%25B8%25D0%25BD%25D1%2581%25D0%25BA%25D0%25B8%25D0%25B9&usg=ALkJrhhftyYC6IuqU7JNd4eXLSKH3WSt9w

A more elaborate bio can be read at:

https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ru&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.millattashlar.ru%2Findex.php%2F%25D0%259B%25D0%25B8%25D1%2582%25D0%25B8%25D0%25BD%25D1%2581%25D0%25BA%25D0%25B8%25D0%25B9_%25D0%2593%25D0%25B5%25D0%25BD%25D1%2580%25D0%25B8%25D1%2585_%25D0%2598%25D0%25BB%25D1%258C%25D0%25B8%25D1%2587&edit-text=&act=url

I'm especially curious about his works for strings, which includes an octet,a dozen string quartets, and solo sonatas. The only score of his I've seen is a solo cello sonata that he wrote in 1977, towards the end of his career.

Dear Jowcol,

Thank you so much for the recent Ross Lee Finney offerings. I've enjoyed collecting that composer's scores for many years and it's a real joy to be able to listen to many of the works for the first time.

Best,
Caos
10  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Any works by Eduard Khagagortyan on: January 17, 2015, 02:26:42 pm
I was wondering if anybody had any recorded pieces by Eduard Khagagortyan, an Armenian composer who studied under A. Khachaturyan and later became famous as an Armenian film music composer. I've read that there's a Melodiya LP with his second symphony for string orchestra, a work for which I have an old score that I'd love the chance to hear. Thanks for any help!
11  Little-known music of all eras / Downloads discussion / Re: Russian and Soviet Music on: January 16, 2015, 07:23:57 pm
Given that he was writing in the USSR's darkest decades (20s, 30s, 40s and early 50s), it's a wonder that he was able to write such light music.

Some would also see exactly the same scenario as being exactly the reason he wrote such light music Wink

Agreed. With quite a bit of the work from the 30s-50s, and especially works from the Soviet territories outside of Russia, the brisk writing style, emphases on unambiguous folk materials, unabashed virtuosity, etc.. was simply required if one wanted to maintain a music career. Soviet composers simply didn't have the Western luxury of being able to openly react to the mood of the times.
12  Little-known music of all eras / Discussion of obscure composers / Re: Obscure Russian/Soviet Piano Concertos on: June 08, 2014, 03:19:59 am
Sorry for a late reply to this thread. I'd certainly agree with a number of the ones chosen and add a handful of concertos that I've only seen in score (but appear to be very interesting, nonetheless):

Eduard Abramyan - no. 1 (1950)
Dmitri Tolstoy - no. 1, op. 44 (1968)
Anatoly Mynov (1960)
Grigory Zinger (1967)
Elizabeta Tumanyan

I have the vocal score for Zador's cantata.
14  Little-known music of all eras / Wish lists and requests / Mirshakar and Pulodi string symphonies on: November 27, 2013, 07:21:16 am
Does anybody have this Melodiya release, featuring works by Tajik composers?

Thanks to any who can help.
15  Little-known music of all eras / Downloads discussion / Re: Estonian Music on: August 24, 2013, 04:59:07 pm
Jan Kokha
Concerto for Piano and Orchestra Op 6
Heljo Sepp, piano
Neeme Jarvi, conducting
Estonian Radio Sym Orchestra

Melodiya LP

http://www.mediafire.com/download/mlauwuhduo00w2d/Kokha_Piano_Concerto_Op_6.mp3

Do you have any information at all about this compoaer? Dates etc?  He doesn't appear on internet searches...or is it Jaan Koha (199-1993)?

It is Jaan Koha. The Russians don't have a proper letter for 'H', so they use the 'KH' letter in its place. A short bio can be found at:
http://www.emic.ee/jaan-koha

As for Villem Reimann, take a look at:
http://www.emic.ee/villem-reimann

There's links to a bio and works list below the pictures. Make sure to change the language option to English.
