Title: Downloading from YouTube
Post by: greek on May 24, 2022, 10:59:41 am
Until recently I used the Internet Download Manager (or IDM). But not long ago it stopped working, I am not sure why.

So I tried a few alternatives, and the one that works best is ClipGrab. It may be obtained here:

https://download.clipgrab.org/clipgrab-3.9.7-portable.exe (https://download.clipgrab.org/clipgrab-3.9.7-portable.exe)

It is in fact better than IDM was.

Just checking this isn't spam?

Anything with .exe is of concern.

DON'T TOUCH !

Click on link provided by OP & the app. downloads itself automatically, & attaches itself to one of the cyber-security set-ups on the computer.

Had to shut everything down & restart, then fiddle with the set-up it had attached to. PURE CHANCE I THINK it's been deleted.

Stupid to have been fooled into trying it, but not amusing.

"attaches itself to one of the cyber-security set-ups on the computer" - What does that mean?

I find the member's fears absurd. One should of course download an exe to one's computer before attempting to run it.

The download can take more than half an hour and the file size is 73,728,520 bytes.

Only then, when you have it on your computer, should you start it. It will then cleanly install clibgrab, which works excellently.

You may read about clipgrab by going to their website:

https://clipgrab.org/ (https://clipgrab.org/)

It has been in existence since 2007.

I have been running this forum for over ten years, so I think my judgement might be trusted.

It's not a 'fear' - it happened !

That is the link that people should have been given in the first place - opportunity to go and check out a product for themselves, rather than being landed with a download that then took 15 mins. to delete
.

Nothing further to say - members can make their own mind up.

You can use any of several free youtube to mp3 services on the web. They work just fine.
