Title: More Estonian music from Jarvi on Chandos
Post by: guest251 on December 18, 2019, 09:22:41 am
This one looks very interesting, continuing Chandos' (and Jarvi's) exploration of Estonian composers:

Thank you for this.  Järvi and the ENSO have recorded the symphony, the pc and the overtures before - do you know if these are fresh recordings or repackagings?

I think they are new recordings - on the amazon link you can see the back cover of the CD and it is recorded in 24bit/48Hz:

The recording is now available for hi-res download from the Chandos website. You can also access the booklet there for free, where you will see that the recordings are new, dating from 2017/18.

Not that I'll pre-judge, but when has a re-do of the same work by the same conductor been preferable (as a performance) to the original?

I'd have much rather had Jarvi (and Chandos) choose some altogether fresh works by deserving composers in need of exposure.
