Title: 1983 Berlin Tote Stadt on DVD
Post by: Albion on September 05, 2012, 09:40:46 am
At long last, Arthaus are releasing the 1983 Deutsche Oper Berlin production of Korngold's wonderful opera Die Tote Stadt. I've had this broadcast performance on a very murky DVD-R for a while so I'm really excited that it will be given an official outing in better quality. The production is excellent, much more sympathetic than the bizarre and distracting 2001 Strasbourg version under Jan Latham-Koenig, with superb singing and playing under Heinrich Hollreiser ...

That's good news. Untill now I regularly play my lp set from RCA, which was the World Prmiere Recording they stated.
I hope the singers come close to that cast.
