Title: Happy Christmas/Holiday Season to All Members
Post by: the Administration on December 21, 2018, 03:03:42 pm
This thread is normally used by new members introducing themselves but it seems appropriate to use it to send Greetings to All Members.

We would imagine that many members will have other things on their minds and other commitments over the holiday season and may not visit the Forum very often or at all.

Before then therefore we would wish to extend to All Members our Very Best Wishes for a Happy and stress-free time over the period.

The Forum went through a rather difficult and trying phase a couple of months ago. The support and encouragement of members was and is deeply appreciated by the current Administration. Without that support it would have been more difficult to weather the storm.

This remains YOUR forum and your participation or simply your interest is essential to its state of health.

Many Thanks!!

Not sure where to post this, but shouldn’t the “index nominum” be the “index nominorum?”

The Suggestions section might have been a more appropriate location for your post but.......

(a) Apparently "Index Nominum" IS acceptable (at least according to Google Translate....my Latin is a bit rusty!)

(b) Even if it wasn't acceptable I am not at all sure that I could change it.

Oh, you sophist!  :-))  Bravo.

'Nuff said about Gurgle Translate  ;)

Meanwhile, Happy Christmas to those whose lives are geared to the Eastern Rite - we celebrated it yesterday.  And Old New Year's Night is still to come, next week :)

My Latin is also rusty, but the phrase means "index of names".  Nomen (name) is third declension so if I remember correctly its genitive plural would be nominumNominorum would be the genitive plural of nominus (second declension), if such a word exists.
A happy New Year to everyone.

Unless members really wish me to go rooting around the structure of the forum (which is well outside my comfort zone) I think we should leave things alone😉
