Title: New Braunfels cd from CPO
Post by: Dundonnell on June 29, 2018, 02:51:18 pm
(I am effectively restoring the link which was lost when the previous post on this subject was deleted.)

https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/cpo/detail/-/art/walter-braunfels-sinfonia-concertante-op-68-fuer-violine-viola-2-hoerner-streichorchester/hnum/8333374 (https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/cpo/detail/-/art/walter-braunfels-sinfonia-concertante-op-68-fuer-violine-viola-2-hoerner-streichorchester/hnum/8333374)

Not that his music does not deserve to be recorded -far from it- but there does seem to have been a "Braunfels bandwagon" in the last few years. Dutton, Capriccio, CPO have all rushed to record virtually the entire Braunfels orchestral music.

Excluding the cantatas which, requiring, as they obviously do, chorus and are therefore more expensive to record I reckon that only
"Hexensabbat" for piano and orchestra, op.8 (1906)
Suite in e minor for orchestra, op.48 (1933-36)
Hebrides Dance for piano and orchestra, op.70 (1950-51)
remain unrecorded.

.......and since Dutton has another cd ready for release soon.......... :)

The last post from member Expi was removed.

This was not, primarily, because he informed us that he would not be buying this new cd: although that in itself can be of little interest to others, and certainly not because he considers Braunfels "over-rated": which is a legitimate view to hold.

The post was deleted because of the use of foul language which will NEVER be tolerated on this website. It was not acceptable under the previous administration. It is not under the new administration.

I cannot find the work you refer to in the catalogue published by the OREL Foundation:

Well, well  I wonder if it is a recently discovered piece. I see that there is no opus number yet it is obviously a substantial work.

Thanks for this information.

Possibly recently discovered - the world premiere was just less than a year ago.

.......and since I suspect that the Suite in e minor might well be on the forthcoming disc from Dutton.......... ;D
