Title: Wolfgang Rihm - Requiem Strophen (2017) Post by: guest632 on April 08, 2017, 09:16:10 am Wolfgang Rihm - Requiem Strophen - a suggested recording. First a shortish item for orchestra: Gruss-Moment 2 (duration ten minutes)
and then a longer item for singers, chorus and orchestra: Requiem Strophen (duration about an hour and twenty minutes) [I'll leave it to others to provide further information if known or required.] Download the Rihm concert in a three-part archive: https://mega.nz/#!zZxViCgD!OUi6eWK-ThVvEpTYuV4Vtq8RBtAGPOwMZex00HbGWi8 (https://mega.nz/#!zZxViCgD!OUi6eWK-ThVvEpTYuV4Vtq8RBtAGPOwMZex00HbGWi8) https://mega.nz/#!WNZ0kIJT!QbQhFb9Uaz7VtdfDxFzHnCxO3IwBc-DsyIVf5OFUiBU (https://mega.nz/#!WNZ0kIJT!QbQhFb9Uaz7VtdfDxFzHnCxO3IwBc-DsyIVf5OFUiBU) https://mega.nz/#!6U5WGazY!R26_XpBZSbz0eLo-IRZo7ppwnyLv8odE7lhBkrJ0ATQ (https://mega.nz/#!6U5WGazY!R26_XpBZSbz0eLo-IRZo7ppwnyLv8odE7lhBkrJ0ATQ) Performers: The symphony orchestra and chorus of the Bavarian Radio conducted by Mariss Jansons Location: Hercules Hall of the Munich Residence Date: 31st of March 2017 Title: Re: Wolfgang Rihm - Requiem Strophen (2017) Post by: cjvinthechair on April 08, 2017, 12:55:45 pm Right - I like Rihm....something of an acquired taste, but have stuck at it !
What does anyone else think of him/this work ? Title: Re: Wolfgang Rihm - Requiem Strophen (2017) Post by: Elroel on April 08, 2017, 10:58:40 pm Thank you Henrietta Pedal for these links.
And in answer of mr. Clive's question: after getting use to Rihm's music I became a great fan of his works. He writes apparently as easy orchestral as works for chamber music. His 13 string quartets are intelligent works. His symphonies, three numbered and 3 'Vers une Fleuve' (also symphonies) are worth listening. He wrote a series of Verwandlungen (6. I believe) for orch and couple of concertant works. In a number of interviews he shows that he knows what he's doing and can tell how and why. Without a doubt one of todays toppers in Germany. Ah..Verwandlungen in rather short supply on YT (just 3 & 6, I believe ?). Seem to be a decent number of concerti on his worklist, though. I just don't enjoy his music.
After several attempts to do so, I just gave up. I kept wondering why am I listening to this? There is so much great accessible music to hear, I may not live live enough to get some composers who are a hard listen...and there are others. Maybe it's akin to an abstract painting that causes me to wonder if the artist is just toying mentally with everyone, ala John Cage?
