Title: Grants from Trusts to fund new recordings...
Post by: guest377 on March 09, 2017, 05:12:57 pm
I was looking at a couple new CDs I just purchased and was curious.... 2 of the new recordings said "Funding for this recording was provided by the XYZ Charitable Trust"...   I wondering now this is going to be more of a normal thing.. idk..  but interesting..

my email note from Adriano regarding the unrecorded symphonies of Vasili Zolotarev :

Thanks Mr. Hibbard

It may be an interesting project – as many others which I have pending – but who is going to sponsor this? As you may know, today it has become impossible to make recordings without full sponsorship – or a joint venture with a solid broadcast station. My Brun project costed over 400’000 US$, and it was sponsored by the composer’s son, otherwise nobody would have dared to invest into such a composer.

I’ve just done a new recording with works by Emile Jaques-Dalcroze:

https://www.bratislavarecording.com/single-post/2017/04/27/The-BSO-record-with-the-world-famous-singer-Elena-Mosuc

but this too was fully paid by the Dalcroze Institute.

The cpo label may be more interested and capable for such a project.   They make good sales enabling to invest into other project – but also not as crazily anymore as in the past.

You have no idea what else I still would like to record! Sometimes this frustration causes me sleepless nights…

Best rewards
Adriano

Sad that its now to the point where major sponsers are required for Unsung Composers!!

Which new full orchestra recordings issued today possibly "make money", - by which I will mean have sales that more than cover their variable costs?

Any?

Will even a Mahler Symphony conducted by some big name come close to that?

Will any individual issue of Adriano's Brun series sell even a thousand copies?

good question... I happen to own several of the Brun series...and noticed that one of the symphonies, the string section was either missing notes or perhaps a violin or two were NOT tuned.. IDK.. I noticed it with headphones...  probably will not sell more 500 copies worldwide.   Good question. Perhaps that is why we see increasingly RCA or Warner reissues or Brilliant reissues all the time...no new recordings..  I just picked up the complete Shostakovich symphonies on Brillant Classics for 20 bucks brand new (Barchai) !!!
