Sometimes I feel like sending a message to Kalevi Aho to the effect of "can you take a long holiday? and not compose anything for a couple of years or so?"  ;D ;D

BIS-the company which has recorded so much Aho (and to whom Aho fans should be extremely grateful) just cannot keep up with his flow of new compositions.

I see that BIS are issuing the Aho Bassoon Concerto (2004) next month. That is good news.

That just leaves-
Double Cello Concerto(2003)
"Bells": Concerto for Saxophone Quartet (2008)
Trombone Concerto(2010)
Trumpet Concerto(2011)
"Seidl": Percussion Concerto(2011)
Cello Concerto No.2(2013)
Double Concerto for Cor Anglais and Harp
Concerto for Soprano Saxophone(2014-15)
Timpani Concerto(2015)
Tenor Saxophone Concerto(2015)
Violin Concerto No.2(2015)
Accordion Concerto (2015-16)

 ;D Aho keeps them coming!!

(Of these, the Double Cello Concerto, "Bells", the Trombone Concerto and, of course, "Seidl" are available for download.)

Many many thanks for this lively video! I wonder whether Aho would have done better to concentrate on the piano, cello or french horn?

It is Aho's declared intention to write a concerto for every instrument in the orchestra.

So far he has managed to compose concertos for-

Violin, Viola, Cello (and Two Cellos), Double-Bass, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Contrabassoon, Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone (and Saxophone Quartet), Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion, Piano, Accordion, Theremin.

There is a Double Concerto for Cor Anglais and Harp....but perhaps he intends separate concertos for each of these? Then there is the piccolo, the harpsichord,  the celeste, the harmonica......... ???

I should add that this year (2016) Aho has added a Chamber Concerto for Harp and thirteen strings "Mearra" and a Double Concerto for Two Bassoons and orchestra.
