Such as I've heard of it suggests not very good Vaughan WillieWalton with a dash of Hindemith thrown in for good measure, but nevertheless well worth exploring if for no reason other than that this was what he really wanted to spend his life doing rather than writing (which is surely of no small interest in itself, given the quality of his literary output).

Maybe worth listening to bits on the website before rushing out to buy the CD.

Hmmn........

I am not convinced. There is a lot of good British music which merits rediscovery but the music composed by Anthony Burgess-what I have heard of it so far and that includes the Symphony No.3-does not make me feel that is high on the list. Energetic but entirely unmemorable.

Well thanks for the youtube-link. A typical 'influenced by every influence composer' I think. One can't do much damage for the 7€ the CD costs over here. And it'll support the only little record shop a bit we still have in our large city.... :-\

I've heard that symphony too and fear that it's about the best of him that I've listened to, which doesn't say a lot.

Burgess had a rather dark and pessimistic sense of humor.
At the very least, his music may be interesting.
I'll have to give it a spin.

Whether you like Burgess' music or not there is an opportunity to hear more on Brazilian Radio Cultura FM 103.3 on the program Música Contemporânea that is on every Sunday at 2200 Brazil time. After you click on "Clique aqui para acessar o site do programa" another page will come up and you can choose the entry for Jan 28. As you will see there, also there is an archive of the program all the way back to 2014 if you care to explore. There is no info on that page about what is played but you can backtrack on the calendar if you want to. You can guess I go where few dare to go in my addiction to hearing new music.
