Title: "Modern Opera Is Rubbish" - Michael Attenborough
Post by: Neil McGowan on August 03, 2012, 11:49:09 am
Michael Attenborough - the talentless son of "Lord" Attenborough - has taken the sole decision to scrap the Almeida Opera Festival.

Quote
“Modern opera studiously avoids anything so old-fashioned as melody or emotion, which seems to me a contradiction of what music is all about.”

said Attenborough. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/opera/9444641/Theatre-director-Michael-Attenborough-is-no-fan-of-modern-opera.html)

I searched on the internet to find out what Michael Attenborough has ever achieved in the sphere of the arts... sadly 'accident of birth' was the only thing I could find.

He is wrong to find the fault in opera specifically. It lies in the attitude of modern youth in general, who are inadequately and improperly educated.
