Post by: Gauk on October 07, 2014, 10:22:53 pm I first encountered Petrov in (I think) the 1970s with his ballet "The Creation of the World" and never heard any other piece of his until now. Hearing this overture confirms what an individual voice Petrov had, which makes it all the more surprising we don't hear more of him. I see he died in 2006. Many thanks for the link.

Post by: Jolly Roger on October 09, 2014, 10:12:15 pm Glad you liked the Overture. The is an abundance of Petrov's music here. He is a gifted and interesting figure, having written quite a bit of music for films as well. He generally likes to feature a delicious "big tune" in his compositions. http://classical-music-online.net/en/composer/Petrov/2822 I hope you are able to hear these things. |
