Title: Vladimir Bokes (1946-), Slovak composer
Post by: kyjo on April 14, 2013, 05:11:02 pm
Just discovered this channel (run by the composer himself), which contains works by contemporary Slovak composer Vladimir Bokes: http://www.youtube.com/user/vladimirbokes/videos?flow=grid&view=0

His Symphonies 2 and 3, String Quartet no. 2 and Wind Quintets 2 and 3 (all substantial compositions) can be found here. Bokes writes listenable, tonal music without being simplistic or cliché; it makes for great listening. Roelof compiled a list of Bokes' compositions a while ago, which demonstrates the versatility of this all-too neglected composer: http://artmusic.smfforfree.com/index.php/topic,1524.0.html

On the same channel also music by the dutch composer Jo van den Booren.
The symphonies 1 & 2 amongst them.
Some works are computerized files, though

Such an unfortunate name ... "bokes" is slang for "vomits".
