Title: Forthcoming John Knowles Paine Orchestral Music from Naxos Post by: kyjo on December 16, 2012, 04:11:55 am Naxos' latest newsletter reveals plans for recording two discs of the orchestral music of the American Romantic composer John Knowles Paine (1839-1906), with JoAnn Falletta as conductor. The contents of the first planned disc will be Paine's Symphony no. 1, "The Tempest", and the "As You Like It" overture. The second planned disc is set to include his Symphony no. 2 and prelude from his opera "Azara". Although the two symphonies and the "As You Like It" overture have already been recorded by Mehta and the NYPO on New World Records, it shall be interesting to hear Falletta's take on this music as well as the two previously unrecorded pieces. In any event, I applaud Naxos for this release and look forward to it!
