Title: Henry Cotter Nixon(1842-1907) and Mendelssohn Piano Trios from Guild

Yeah, I know-that cheap old marketing trick of coupling an "unsung" piece with a "sung" one is present here, but you'd got to admit the Henry Cotter Nixon Piano Trio no. 1 in C major will be something to look forward to hearing :). It's not that often that we get recordings of such obscure 19th century British music, so we should be thankful to Guild for bringing this substantial (48 minute!) trio to disc. The performers are the London Piano Trio. Here is a description from the Guild website of the Nixon trio:

This premier recording of Henry Cotter Nixon's Piano Trio No. 1 from 1879 is another example of the myth that no British music of worth was composed between Handel and Elgar. Although influenced by the Germanic musical culture of Schubert, Schumann and Mendelssohn the melody opening the andante is an example of the late Victorian Anglican hymn. This recording follows the London Piano Trio's recording of Donald Tovey's Piano Trio Opus 27 on the Guild Music label GMCD 7352 strengthening their commitment to British music.

Thanks for this notice. From the sound-clips it sounds like a very decent piece, and is well performed -
