His music wasn't played in Soviet Russia. He was expelled from conservatory twice for anti-government views. He was never allowed to go abroad. His music was crossed out from concert performances by officials. He was given some small title four years before his death with no rights to pension. They talked about Government sponsored anti-Semitism. There is interview with composer's son who wrote book called Hero of evil. http://youtu.be/HIyP_umKogU Ideological idiotism was amazing. Symphony number 3 was forbidden because name of Kipling was considered then as propagandist of imperialism and capitalism. They suggested to him to through poems of Kipling out and have some Soviet poet writing poetry for the symphony. India should be changed to Vietnam and English soldiers to American. In his variations for piano there is variation when person is trying to escape dictatorship.
