Title: Ries and Hindemith from Naxos
Post by: kyjo on October 02, 2012, 12:55:37 am
Nothing too exciting here, but I thought I'd mention these two upcoming Naxos releases :):
-Ferdinand Ries: Piano Concertos, Vol. 5: Piano Concerto no. 2 in E-flat major, op. 42; Piano Concerto no. 9 in G minor, op. 177; Introduction et Rondeau brilliant for piano and orchestra, op. 144 (Christopher Hinterhuber, piano; New Zealand Symphony Orchestra/Uwe Grodd)
-Paul Hindemith: String Quartets, Vol. 2: String Quartet no. 5, op. 32; String Quartet no. 6 in E-flat major; String Quartet no. 7 in E-flat major (Amar Quartet)
Also, there's Ravel Orchestral Works Vol. 1 with the Lyon National Orchestra under Slatkin, which includes an arrangement of "Piece en forme de habanera" for violin and orchestra, which, to my knowledge, hasn't been recorded before in this guise :).

The Maxwell Davies Symphony no. 6, Time and the Raven, and An Ornkey Wedding with Sunrise disc has just been posted on the Naxos site along with the previously mentioned recording of Weinberg's Symphony no. 19 "The Bright May" along with his symphonic poem "The Banners of Peace :). There is also an upcoming recording of Rihm's violin and piano works, which could be worth getting, but Rihm is quite an unpredictable composer in terms of accesibility level, so I'll wait for reviews on it before buying ;D!
