Nikolai Tcherepnin (Николай Черепнин) was born in St. Petersburg in 1873.

He was influenced by French Impressionism (and especially its harmonies and orchestrational devices) and the new harmonic sensibilities of Scriabine. He employed modes based on diminished, augmented and dominant chords.

His piano concerto in C sharp minor, opus 30, was composed in 1905.
