Willem Kersters was born in Antwerp in 1929.

He was an eclectic composer who did not feel restricted to any system, and aimed to express disciplined feeling. He gave us five grand symphonies (dating from the years 1962, 1963, 1967, 1979 and 1987) as well as two fine string quartets:
