The recording quality of the cello sonata is somewhat distorted. I would appreciate if someone had an alternative upload – or any further piece by Sekles for that!

Does anybody have the movement listing for the Senfter symphony?  I can't remember if there's one at the other forum or not.

Thank you.  And if it is in "b-dur" then it's in B-flat Major, not B Major (h-dur).

After a little break because of much work, I now present some new uploads. Here is the complete cycle of string quartets by Eastern German composer Ernst Hermann Meyer. I think this is outstanding music, and for me, Meyer is one of the finest German composers of his generation. Alas, he is more or less completely ignored today, which has political reasons. Meyer joined the German Communist Party as soon as in 1930, emigrated to England in 1933 to escape National Socialism (as being both of Jewish descent and a communist) but lost his parents in the Holocaust. In England, he became a close friend of Alan Bush.

Some years after the war, he returned to (Eastern) Germany and actively participated in building up the music culture of the GDR both as a composer and as a musicologist. He was even involved in politics. It is frequently said he was quite a complicated person because he was so very much convinced of building up socialism and following the party - as it has to be emphasized, he was nobody who did so to gain personal benefits but really somobody acting out of deep conviction.

The result was, however, that after the fall of socialism, his music became completely neglected - a pity, because it is excellent. While his vocal music often aims at being easily accessible (but nevertheless very well composed), most of his instrumental music is rather complex, sophisticated and thoughtful. So are his six string quartets, composed between 1956 and 1982.

Here they are:
