Marius Flothuis (1914-2001)  -  String Quartet, op. 44  (1951-2)

Het Nederlands Strijkkwartet (The Dutch String Quartet):
Nap de Klijn and Jaap Schröder, violin, Paul Godwin, viola, Carel van Leeuwen Boomkamp, cello

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?wojlaqip7isgdih

from Philips A 00492L  (released in the 1960s)
(Was only availabe in the Netherlands and Belgium)

Marius Flothuis dedicated the quartet to his wife, they married 1948. He tell us that he is pretty certain that their union was of a considerable influence on this work. The first three movements are more or less written in the same mood, which is 'nervous-moved'. There contrast lies in the tempi. The 4th movement is slightly facetious. Only in the 5th movement it reaches a state of inner balance, the composer writes.
