Reparation for bruised careers
Frits van der Waa - 21/03/05, 00:00
For fifty years they were forgotten, the composers of the "degenerate Musik ', the name by which the Nazis music that does not fit their ideology on a heap threw, whether it was for Jewish composers or musical thinkers ....
http://www.mediafire.com/?w0s8cjcb6ssa5iw

Here is the 1st mvt of Rosy Wertheim as reconstructed by Ernst Oosterveld, played by Jonathan Gilad, Netherlands radio Orchestra, Ed Spanjaard.

This is a Google translation of an article about the Zaterdagmatinee Concert in 2005, I think:

Meanwhile there for those composers a posthumous rehabilitation begun. Equally forgotten the Dutch composers of Jewish descent. But for Leo Smit, whose complete works now on CD is released, wait for a great deal still to be recognized.

The Saturday Matinee doing anything about it. The occurrence of the Radio Symphony Orchestra opened with works by Sem Dresden and Rosy Wertheim. Both composers have indeed survived the war, but the war has broken their careers anyway. This applies particularly to Wertheim, which is four years after the liberation of the age of 61 died. From her Piano Concerto from 1940, in that year premiered at the Residence Orchestra is not a complete version preserved, so the French-Israeli pianist Jonathan Gilad executed only the first part, in a composer Ernst Oosterveld crafted reconstruction.

Five minutes is a little short for a composers' rehabilitation, but it was heard Rosy Wertheim properly at the time. An angular chromatic theme sets the tone for a busy music with a transverse sound environment, interspersed with tough octaves and smooth riffs that Gilad with verve from the keyboard oprakelde. The only 24-year old pianist bore then stir with a flawless rendition of Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto, which he fire and delicacy combined with subtle tonal gradations.

Two works taken from a concert in Utrecht, the 4th large city in The Netherlands.
Both the composers are born here, and Wagenaar lived and worked for many years in the city.
The works are from very different periods, Wagenaar was a late romantic and Andriessen belongs to minimalists.
For some reason these two works fit nicely together.

Johan Wagenaar (1894-1941)
Elverhøj  [after a story by Hans Christian Andersen]

A colourful orchestral piece

Louis Andriessen (b 1934)
Suite 'Vermeer Pictures' [a Suite from the opera 'Writing to Vermeer'
http://www.mediafire.com/listen/p1923e2yn63y9qd/Louis_Andriessen_-_Vermeer_Picture-Suite.mp3

In both cases the orchestra is the Dutch Radio Philharmonie, with their principal conductor (since sept 2010) Michael Schönwandt (from Denmark).

The Limburg Symfonie Orkest; conductor Ed Spanjaard

It comes from a tape of a live recording, later also broadcast on Concertzender.

More info in the Dutch Download Discussion Section

As I kept the original sound quality, the file file is pretty large. If someone needs a smaller, or splitted download, please give me a pm

Johan Wagenaar (1862 to 1941): Aveux de Phèdre (after Racine) opus 41 for soprano and orchestra (1935)

Download as a two-part rar archive (new longer-lasting links):
http://ulozto.net/xhMR15Ms/berliozandwagenaar-part1-rar
http://ulozto.net/xz7Jt97N/berliozandwagenaar-part2-rar

Performed by the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra of the Netherlands, conducted by Serge Baudo, with the soprano
Eva Hornyáková. In this concert the Wagenaar is preceded by the overture 'Le Roi Lear', opus 4, of Berlioz.

File size 699,165,455 bytes, video duration thirty-eight minutes.

Wagenaar generally composed to suit the tastes of his own generation, rather than current fashions; as a result, his late works received little attention. Those pieces which have remained in the Dutch repertory (such as the overtures Cyrano de Bergerac and De Getemde Feeks, and Wiener Dreivierteltakt) are programmatic or theatrical in origin. The writing shows a remarkable feeling for tone-colour, with strong overtones of Berlioz and Strauss. A serious, arguably more original aspect of his talent appears in compositions such as the symphonic poem Saul en David and this vocal scena Aveux de Phèdre.

Jan Koetsier - Symphony No. 1, OP 29 (1954), but here, the 1968 revision, is played.

Today, I was searching about the many radio recordings I made over the decennia and came across the dutch composer Jan Koetsier's first symphony.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1W-c2BTPCTDsu4JmbwkP1FV5_c5zou5vi

It is played by the Orch of the Bavarian Radio, with the composer conducting.

A fine symphony to my ears, as is his second, b.t.w.
Alas, the latter one in on cd, so not for these pages.
