Oskar Nedbal (1874 to 1930) - Ballet music "Z pohádky do pohádky" [From Fairy-tale to Fairy-tale] (1908):

    http://www.mediafire.com/?m72flb9p40y01cv

This achingly beautiful music comes from a wireless broadcast; duration forty-three minutes. With the Czech PO, which he conducted from 1896 to 1906, Nedbal, one of Dvořák’s most successful pupils, undertook his first major tour outside Austro-Hungary, to England in 1902. He also appeared as a guest conductor throughout Europe, displaying his temperamental, accomplished technique in works by Mozart, Beethoven, Berlioz, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Smetana, Dvorák, Fibich, Novák and Suk. Subsequently he settled in Vienna, where he founded and conducted the Tonkünstlerorchester (1907–18).

He returned to Prague after the formation of the Czech Republic and conducted the Šak PO (1920–21), but in the strained postwar nationalist atmosphere he was not favourably received, and he left for Bratislava, where he became a leading light in the musical life of Slovakia. He was head of opera at the newly established Slovak National Theatre, director of the Bratislava radio station and a reader at both the university and the music academy. He also conducted concerts for the Cultural Union for Slovakia. His work at the National Theatre included giving the premičres of Bella’s Wieland der Schmied (1926) and Figuš’s Detvan (1928). In 1930 he leaped from an upper window of the Zagreb Opera House.

Many thanks to Elroel for those two concertos!

Here is a second ballet from Oskar Nedbal (1874 to 1930) - entitled "Andersen" it was composed in 1912 and first performed in Vienna on the first of March 1914:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?9ayufo1d26g32ke

From a wireless broadcast; duration twenty-two minutes. It does not I find exist on such a consistently high plane as "Fairy-tale to Fairy-tale," perhaps because it is shorter and there are fewer items in three-quarter time; nevertheless it contains many fine passages.

Jan Hanuš (1915 to 2004) - Symphonic triptych "Three Essays" opus 86 (1976):

    http://www.mediafire.com/?gozojr2ngvd1inx

From a wireless broadcast; duration twenty-one minutes. Generous members have already contributed a considerable quantity of Hanus's orchestral music to the download archive, but not yet this composition. Although I have never been quite sure of the meaning of the word "Romantic" in application to music, I am sure that it would never be applied to this work. Yet despite its many surprises it is fundamentally tonal. Norman Lebrecht says that "Hanuš's style is richly traditional, reminiscent of Dvořák and Fibich"; I must say that that would never have occurred to me.
