[Sorry - I didn't realize until later that this work had already been submitted by Eroel.]

Miloslav Ištvan (1928 to 1990) - "Ballad of the South" (three symphonic frescoes for orchestra - 1960):

    http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?44gocmmhe4la5ma

From a wireless broadcast; preceded by a one-minute spoken introduction in the Czech language. Duration twenty minutes. Grove describes this work as "a protest against racialism and national injustice" - but I don't know how that becomes perceptible in the music!

Vladimír Sommer (1921 to 1997) - Symphonic Prelude "Antigona" (1957):

    http://www.mediafire.com/?7ca4234g5avmphv

From a wireless broadcast of a live concert; duration fifteen minutes. "Sommer’s music in general is tonal and uses functional harmony, though pushed to its limits. The foundation of his orchestral sound is usually provided by the strings, whose finest nuances he exploited to the full. He worked slowly on his compositions, carefully selecting, correcting and integrating ideas so that the final result would be compact in form as well as rich in invention. His self-criticism sometimes led him to make alterations only moments before a performance."

Otakar Ostrčil (1879 to 1935) - Symphony in A major opus 7 (1905):

    http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?1088ssml0846uvq

From a wireless broadcast of a public concert; duration forty minutes. "In his compositions Ostrčil developed from the complex and altered harmony of late Romanticism to the Expressionism of the inter-war years. He had a special flair for instrumentation, and orchestral pieces predominate in his modest output. (A self-critical composer, he left only 25 works with opus numbers.) The rational takes precedence over the emotional in his creative work."
