Symphony 1 by Jozef GrešákKosice State Symphony Orchestra Bystrik Rezucha, Conductor Date Unknown From the collection of Karl Miller Link http://www.mediafire.com/?nn44n9d2u88c53o
I've found a description of him below, a small English at the end of some monograph that was in a language I could not fathom. Jozef Grešák – original personality of the Slovak music of the 20th centurySummaryJozef Gresak (1907 – 1987) belongs to the most original Slovak music composers of the 20th century. Student of Frano Dostalik (who was student of Leos Janacek) was basically autodidact in music composition. The influence of Leos Janacek can be seen in his unordinary music expression. He has reached his specific music expression with the deep study of east Slovakian folk music sources. This specific music expression has been shown especially in organizing the music material at that time. He has achieved a lot of composition success throughout the sixties. In the seventies, the influence of L. Janacek, B. Bartokand A. Webern can be seen. His compostion is falling to be little unknown nowadays. There is also another description of him from the Proceedings of the 1988 Janaceck conference in Google books. Here is a link: http://tinyurl.com/7kscbs2

http://www.mediafire.com/?hdl3kpkjhsjebzyThanks to Roelof's hard research, it seems this recording of Ilja Zeljenka's Sym No. 3 is not a commercial release. Enjoy! Ilja Zeljenka Symphony No. 3 Czech RSO Bratislava, Ondrej Lenard

http://www.mediafire.com/?7e3wv85jislycIt is an act of faith--or guessing?-- to put this here. I heard this Symphony No. 5, A Slovak in Engandin by Juraj Farkas on Slovakian radio and it is a recording of a live broadcast and I liked it a lot. Problem is I can find no information on Juraj Farkas: A Russian site refers to him as Slovenian-Hungarian, and he orchestrated some pieces by Jeno Hubay, but that is all I can find. I definitely would like to hear symphonies 1-4! If anyone has any information, I would appreciate it. Also, I included some of the announcement in Slovakian but I can't understand what orchestra is playing, so maybe someone else can translate for us. Hope you like it. Jim
